CPL require a Chemical / Materials Research engineer for a leading multinational in Cavan. You will work on a newly established R&D team working on NPI and existing product improvements. Role will be based in a new state of the art R&D facility due to open in March 2019. The Senior Chemical and Material Research Engineer will undergo an initial 2 month training program based at either our Cavan or other UK facility, working alongside our current chemical engineers, learning about our foam technology, our foam processing techniques and the critical chemicals involved. This will include time spent in our UK and Irish plants working alongside our chemical process engineers. After successfully completing this training, the Chemical Research Engineer /Material research will be given key projects with the R&D team. Your responsibilities: The work will consist of a series of projects aimed at developing new innovative solutions for product set. ( Panels, thermoplastics, Board. The objective would be to improve fire, thermal , span and environmental issues. Lead the coordination and lend experience to other projects underway in the research centre. Plan, Organise and progress your own Chemical Research and Development projects. This would involve; A broad internet search, for example academic journals, discussions with chemical suppliers and meetings with our senior chemists to understand the project and identify possible solutions. Initial screening of possible formulations and chemicals in the laboratory. Production of discontinuous new or improved formulation panels in The Innovation Centre. Running full scale production trials in our UK or Irish plants. Coordinate a full analysis of foam produced at all stages of development. Write comprehensive reports to keep the management team up to date on all projects. Attend team meetings, both chemical and inter departmental, to discuss the progress of the projects being carried out in the Innovation centre. Attend trade fairs and conferences, meet chemical suppliers to uncover new chemicals and new technologies. Handle, mix and process chemicals in a safe and responsible manner. This will include risk and COSHH assessments. Requirements. Masters or PhD in Chemistry or Material Science. Detailed knowledge of Polymer and Inorganic Chemistry. Knowledge of PIR, Phenolic and Minerals and their processing although not essential would be advantageous. Knowledge of chemical and material mixing plus nucleation. Candidate. Candidate will have worked in academia or in material research centre, 5 or more years of experience in leading projects. Track record of having developed or advanced material.
